The popular animated TV series “Ouran High School Host Club” will be released on Blu-ray on Aug. 24 by Vap Inc., the distributor announced.

Priced at 26,250 yen ($326), including tax, the five-disc boxed set will include all 26 episodes of the anime aired by Nippon Television Network Corp. in 2006.

The box set will also include bonus audio commentary by director Takuya Igarashi, scriptwriter and story supervisor Yoji Enokido and Maaya Sakamoto, the voice actress who played Haruhi Fujioka.

The series will return in the high-definition remastered version.
The series was produced by Bones Inc., an anime studio known for high-quality imagery and sound.

“Ouran High School Host Club” is based on the manga of the same name by Bisco Hatori. Popular at home and abroad, the manga spans 18 volumes with more than 11 million copies sold.

The slapstick comedy about romance and friendship is set in prestigious Ouran High School, where most of the students come from super-rich families.

Haruhi is a girl from an ordinary family who attends the private school. One day she wanders into the school’s “host club,” where male students cater to female customers and accidentally breaks a vase worth 8 million yen. To repay her debt, Haruhi has to serve as a male host at the club.

Prior to the Blu-ray release, a live-action adaptation of the title is also slated for broadcast from July. Starring Haruna Kawaguchi, Yusuke Yamamoto and Shunsuke Daito, the TV drama will air at midnight Fridays.
