Bandai launches online ‘design-your-own’ Kamen Rider action figure store

Translated by The Asahi Shimbun from the website of Anime Anime Japan Ltd.

Leading toymaker Bandai Co. has launched the “Ordermade Bandai” online shopping service which offers customers the joy of mixing and matching parts to create their own combination of action figures.

As a starter, Bandai opened the “OOO Sofubi Factory” website where customers can choose the head, arm and leg parts to make one of 119 possible combinations of a Kamen Rider OOO (pronounced Ohs) figure aside from the six pre-designed combinations already on sale.

In the “Kamen Rider OOO” TV series,” the superhero can change into many forms with the combination of the Core Medals. The “OOO Sofubi Factory” allows fans to come up with their favorite combo.

Each day, a limited number of orders are accepted at the “Ordermade Bandai” page set up in the “Premium Bandai” website. The figure will be shipped directly to the customer in or around two weeks for 1,050 yen ($13), including tax but excluding shipping and handling fees.

In addition, a complete set of all the 119 figures will also be offered for hard-core collectors. Only 100 of these sets will be available for 124,950 yen each.

The complete set will also include a replica autograph of Kosei Kogami, chairperson of the Kogami Foundation who appears in the live-action TV series.

The “Ordermade Bandai” service follows suit Bandai’s successful custom-made action figure series called “Jibun Damashii” (my spirit). Launched as part of the toymaker’s “Tamashii Web” product lineup intended for adults, the “Jibun Damashii” online service took orders from customers to manufacture an action figure of Kamen Rider No. 1 or Char Aznable from the “Mobile Suit Gundam” series with the face modeled after the customer.

Bandai said action figures from “OOO Sofubi Factory” are aimed at boys aged between 3 and 6 years old who love the TV show and their parents in an attempt to attract a wider range of customers.

More products will be introduced to expand the lineup, the company said.
