Voyager returns with theme song for new ‘Ultraman’

Translated by The Asahi Shimbun from the website of Anime Anime Japan Ltd.

Pop vocal group Voyager will sing the title theme for “Ultraman Retsuden” (Ultraman chronicles), a new weekly series to start airing July 6 on TV Tokyo Corp.’s six affiliated networks.

The TV series marks the 45th anniversary of the Ultra superhero franchise.

The yet-untitled song will be released from King Record Co. on CD on July 27, priced at 1,260 yen ($15.65), including tax. The album will include bonus tracks, such as a karaoke version and “Densetsu no Hero” (Legendary hero), which was used for a TV commercial.

The four-member Voyager comprises Mizuki Shikama, Mai Nagata, Yu Chiaki and the only male, Tomohiro Yamaguchi.

The vocal quartet seems to be the perfect choice for “Ultraman Retsuden,” as the show will focus on successive generations of the superhero.

Voyager’s first public performance was at the Ultraman Festival on July 25, 2009, and since have sung mainly theme songs and other music for the superhero series. They have made about 200 stage appearances, attracting 100,000 fans.

Ultraman Zero, the latest in the franchise, is the navigator for the TV show. The series will present re-edited versions of episodes from past series, and a special program will focus on the Ultra heroes and monsters from all the shows.

Both children and adults who cherish their memories of watching the Ultra franchise will enjoy the series.
