Translated by The Asahi Shimbun from the website of Anime Anime Japan Ltd.
The two main voices for the much-anticipated animated TV series “Usagi Drop” (“Bunny Drop” in the United States), have been announced: Hiroshi Tsuchida and Ayu Matsuura.
The series is based on the comic of the same name by Yumi Unita, which has about 820,000 copies in print.
A feature film adaptation starring Kenichi Matsuyama is due in cinemas Aug. 20.
The TV anime premieres on Fuji Television Network Inc.’s “noitaminA” midnight animation slot July 7, and later on other affiliated networks.
Tsuchida voices the main role of Daikichi Kawachi, a 30-year-old bachelor who decides to raise a 6-year-old girl, Rin Kaga.
Previously, Tsuchida voiced Lightning McQueen in the Japanese dubbed version of Disney’s “Cars” and a long list of roles in movies and anime shows. He also narrates TV programs.
Matsuura, 10, voiced the lead role in animated film “Kuma no Gakko” (The bears’ school).
The “noitaminA” block airs high-quality anime titles aimed at a wider audience than typical anime fans, often showing ambitious and experimental works. It airs at 45 minutes past midnight every Thursday night.
The series is produced by Production I.G Inc., known for Mamoru Oshii’s “Ghost in the Shell.”
