A preview of “Appleseed XIII,” the exciting new CG animated adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s manga, was unveiled March 24 at Baselworld 2011, the world’s largest watch and jewelry show held annually in Basel, Switzerland.

The video, a collaboration between the anime’s producers and Citizen Watch Co., promotes both the upcoming feature film and the watchmaker’s new Eco-Drive Satellite Wave timepiece, due to hit stores this autumn.

In the video clip, Deunan and her cyborg partner Briareos roar through the city of Olympus on a motorcycle, wearing their futuristic Eco-Drive Satellite Wave watches.

Powered by light, the Eco-Drive wristwatch receives time signals from satellites so it always synchronizes with accurate time, a function highlighted in the “Appleseed XIII” video.

The 13-episode sci-fi epic will be released in two parts. The first film opens this June in theaters around Japan. The anime will also be available through Internet streaming and on Blu-ray and DVD.

Shirow’s “Appleseed” was previously adapted into an anime films in 2004 and 2007. Each time, it gained more fans around the globe.
