‘Card Fight!! Vanguard’ airing Saturday mornings nationwide

Translated by The Asahi Shimbun from the website of Anime Anime Japan Ltd.

“Card Fight!! Vanguard,” an animated TV series based on a trading card game, is being aired nationwide Saturday mornings on the Aichi Television Broadcasting Co. network and other TV Tokyo Corp. affiliates.

The media mix project includes the trading card game, manga, social networking service and animation products.

The “Vanguard” TV show is geared to attract the attention of children, as it is aired Saturdays at 8 a.m. on the TV Tokyo network.

The central core of the project, the anime series is produced by anime studio TMS Entertainment Ltd., which is noted for its anime for boys. The studio is also a member of the project team and has announced plans to promote and raise the profile of the title through animations.

The TV series highlights not only the fun of the card game but also the growth of the characters and their interactions.

The story revolves around Aichi Sendo, a fainthearted third-year junior high school student who is barely noticed by his classmates. But he gradually improves his social standing through friendly competition and collaboration by playing the “Vanguard Fight” card game.

As with other anime series involving trading card games such as “Duel Masters,” “Yu-Gi-Oh!” and “Battle Spirits,” the first challenge for the “Vanguard” series will be to gain a foothold among its young viewers.

Sega Sammy Group, to which TMS Entertainment belongs, is a comprehensive entertainment group whose ventures include animation, games, toys, and online content. Its business network will likely be essential for the success of the “Vanguard” project.
