Translated by The Asahi Shimbun from the website of Anime Anime Japan Ltd.
Leading anime studio Madhouse Inc. said on its website that it is now producing its adaptation of Charles M. Schulz’s world-famous “Peanuts” comic strip series.
“Peanuts” was launched by the U.S. cartoonist in 1950. It has enjoyed worldwide popularity for more than 60 years with characters such as Charlie Brown, Snoopy and Lucy.
According to Madhouse, the studio was assigned by Peanuts Worldwide LLC in late 2011 to produce animation of the comic series. Currently, there is only one production house other than Madhouse designated for Peanuts animation production.
Peanuts Worldwide was jointly established by Iconix Brand Group Inc. and Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates to handle the licensing for Peanuts and other brands.
Madhouse says it has already produced an animated short featuring Peanuts characters, which was publicly showcased at a Tokyo venue.
Because of the huge popularity of Snoopy and other Peanuts characters, it looks certain that Madhouse will continue to produce more anime works featuring the white beagle and his owner, Charlie Brown.
