‘Madoka Magica’ to be made into online game

Translated by The Asahi Shimbun from the website of Anime Anime Japan Ltd.

Online and network game company Strategy & Partners Co. said it reached agreement with Aniplex Inc. to develop and operate an online browser-based game based on the popular TV anime “Puella Magi Madoka Magica.”

“Puella Magi Madoka Magica Online” is scheduled to start operating in spring, and an official website was launched on Dec. 21 to advertise the game.

The game will run directly in a web browser, with no specific software needed. Because of this ease of use, the publisher aims to attract users not enrolled in existing online games. The game will be free but players will be charged if they choose to buy optional game items in their quest to befriend all the game’s “magical girls.”

Players will need to form a party of six characters including their own. Team members will hone their fighting abilities and obtain more powerful equipment as they make their way through the game. Players can also cooperate with other users over the Internet and challenge Walpurgis Night, the arch-enemy from the anime series.

The “Madoka Magica” anime, which first aired in 2011, is set to be made into a film trilogy and seems set to continue to attract attention in 2012.
More details about the online game are available on its official website at (http://mm.my-gg.com/).
