E-book store attracts customers in Shinjuku

Head on over to the Book Walker Tokyo Metro Underground shop in Shinjuku Station. Kadokawa Contents Gate Co. opened the store on Dec. 19, where customers can take a look at digital books before purchasing them online.

The store offers 210 titles from its Book Walker e-book distribution service, the company said. The selection includes light novels, manga, magazines, game-related publications, literary works, paperbacks and how-to books.

The covers of the digital books are lined up on a shelf to attract customers. Each image of the digital books comes with a bar code. code. When it is scanned by a smartphone, a website containing detailed information on the title will appear on the device.

The Book Walker store also has Wi-Fi access so shoppers can take time to look for titles of their choice.

To promote the Book Walker digital distribution service, leaflets listing book titles available on smartphones and tablet computers are distributed at the store.

The temporary store will operate until Dec. 25, the publisher said.
