Japan Post to issue ‘Dragon Ball Kai’ stamps

Translated by The Asahi Shimbun from the website of Anime Anime Japan Ltd.

Japan Post Service Co. will release a postal stamp set featuring characters from the “Dragon Ball Kai” animated series on Jan. 23.

The stamps will feature the Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Trunks and Piccolo characters. Japan Post is planning to release 1.5 million sheets, each containing 10 stamps in 80-yen denominations.

“Dragon Ball Kai” was aired in Japan between April 2009 to March 2011 by Fuji Television Network Inc. It also attracted large audiences abroad.

It is a digitally remastered edition of the “Dragon Ball” animated series, which started in 1986, and its sequel, “Dragon Ball Z.” Both series were based on “Dragon Ball,” a manga by Akira Toriyama.

The stamps are the 17th installment of Japan Post’s anime hero and heroine stamp series, which was launched in 2004.

The Association of Japanese Animation provides Japan Post with illustrations to be used for the designs. The stamps have become collectors’ items.

Previous installments in the series have included “Mobile Suit Gundam,” “Pokemon,” “Detective Conan” (Case Closed), and “Neon Genesis Evangelion.”

The “Dragon Ball Kai” stamps will be available at post offices and other outlets across Japan. Visit Japan Post’s official website at http://www.post.japanpost.jp/kitte_hagaki/stamp/tokusyu/2011/h240123
