DeAgostini to release weekly ‘Gundam Perfect File’ pictorial magazine

Translated by The Asahi Shimbun from the website of Anime Anime Japan Ltd.

DeAgostini Japan, the publisher of pictorial magazines with special freebie inserts, is set to offer what it says is the complete guide to the “Gundam” series–with plastic toys to boot.

The first issue of “The Official Gundam Perfect File,” a weekly pictorial magazine devoted to all aspects of the “Mobile Suit Gundam” anime, will be released on Sept. 20.

The magazine will cover all the titles in the robot anime series, ranging from the first “Mobile Suit Gundam,” “Mobile Suit Gundam UC” and to the most recent “Mobile Suit Gundam AGE.”
The titles have proved hugely popular since they were first published in 1979, DeAgostini Japan said.

The weekly magazine series is slated to span 180 volumes and about 5,000 pages over the next three years or so.

The magazine looks certain to serve as the definitive edition for fans.

The magazine will cover not only the animated TV series, feature film and straight-to-video editions, but also plastic models, videogames and other Gundam-related products in the anime franchise.

To help readers fully appreciate the machines, characters and the world views of the anime, each issue of the full-color magazine will comprise six chapters: the Mechanic File, World Guide, Personal Profile, Timeline, Glossary and Gundam Topics sections.

The first issue is priced at 290 yen ($3.80), including tax, and subsequent issues will cost 590 yen each. The first issue will also come with a free binder. The binder can accommodate 10 issues.

Readers who purchase the first through 55th issues of the magazine will receive an exclusive illustration featuring “Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack.” Other special giveaways are also planned in the future.
