May’n to sing ‘Phi Brain’ theme tune

Translated by The Asahi Shimbun from the website of Anime Anime Japan Ltd.

The J-pop singer May’n will perform the theme song for “Phi Brain: Kami no Pazuru” (Phi Brain: God’s Puzzle), an upcoming anime show slated to start in October on Japan Broadcasting Corp. (NHK)’s educational channel.

The anime’s official website announced on Aug. 20 that the singing sensation will sing the upbeat “Brain Diver.” A single will be released on Nov. 2.

May’n shot to fame after she provided the singing voice for Sheryl Nome in the “Macross Frontier” anime TV series in 2008 and is regarded as one of the nation’s top anime singers. She recently performed a solo concert at Tokyo’s Nippon Budokan hall and a successful Asian tour.
“Scarlet Ballet,” which came out in May this year, was her biggest-selling single to date.

“Phi Brain” will be produced by Sunrise Inc., the leading anime studio responsible for the “Mobile Suit Gundam” robot anime series. Junichi Sato, whose credits as director include “Sailor Moon,” will lead the project.

A manga adaptation of the anime is currently running in Weekly Shonen Magazine.
