Rising star Ryo Katsuji and popular voice actress Aki Toyosaki will play the leading roles in the much-anticipated anime series “Un-Go” (An-go), the anime’s official website announced.
Katsuji will give voice to self-appointed detective Shinjuro Yuki, while Toyosaki portrays a mysterious boy named Inga who acts as his sidekick.
The anime series will air in Fuji Television Network’s “noitaminA” midnight animation slot from October. With leading anime creators assembled for the production, it has already attracted considerable attention.
Katsuji has played parts in animated features “Origin: Spirits of the Past” and “Mobile Suit Gundam 00 The Movie: A Wakening of the Trailblazer,” but this will be his first time to work on an animated TV series.
“I’m not sure how well I can play the character because I’m not a ‘voice actor,’ and I’m nervous,” Katsuji was quoted as saying. “But I want to make a fresh start and create this anime along with some great staff members.”
Toyosaki is best known as the voice actress playing Yui Hirasawa from the “K-On!” animated series. She has expanded her range of activities to work as a radio personality and singer.
Toyosaki said she was excited to win the role of Inga after an audition.
“I want to play Inga in a mysterious and innocent manner so that I can pull the charm out of him with my acting,” Toyosaki was quoted as saying.
“Un-Go” is an adaptation of “Meiji Kaika Ango Torimono-cho” (Ango’s detective stories from the early Meiji Period), a detective series by Ango Sakaguchi (1906-55).
Set in postwar Tokyo, Shinjuro Yuki and Inga set out to solve mysterious cases.
Seiji Mizushima, director of the “Mobile Suit Gundam 00” animated TV series, is taking the helm for the production, while screenwriter Sho Aikawa will write the script.
Popular illustrator pako and manga artist Yun Koga will design the characters.
In addition, the website revealed the visuals of four more characters of the anime: Rie Kaisho, Rinroku Kaisho, Izumi Koyama and Seigen Hayami.
Also, a manga adaptation of the anime, “Un-Go: Inga-ron,” will start in the October issue of Newtype anime magazine, and another in the first issue of Newtype Ace manga magazine.
