Game developer Banpresto Co. and Toei Animation Co. say they will make an official production announcement for their joint original anime project “Kyoso-giga” at the Chara Hobby 2011 in August.
The annual trade show dedicated to character goods and hobby items runs Aug. 27-28 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture.
The voice-acting cast portraying Koto and other main characters will be announced, and a 5-minute promo video introducing the story will be showcased.
A longer video clip that gives a closer look at the anime will be streamed online at the anime’s official website starting June 24.
The “Kyoso-giga” action fantasy project was announced this spring and got immediate attention from fans who love its stylish imagery.
Up-and-coming creators were assembled for the staff, including director Rie Matsumoto, who worked on the “Precure” TV series and took the helm for several feature film adaptations, and character designer and key animation supervisor Yuki Hayashi.
“Kyoso Giga” is set in “Kyoto,” a city where time has stopped after it was isolated from the outside world. The story revolves around Koto, a junior high school girl.
The companies said the anime, which will feature elaborate visuals, is mainly aimed at youths in their teens to early 20s.
The two companies have also teamed up for other projects, but this is the first full-swing anime production for Banpresto. Toei Animation is hoping to attract older teens and young adults.
The two companies said they will continue collaborating on various projects.
