“Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You,” an animated TV series about a high school girl, returns for its second season Jan. 4, 2011, Nippon Television Network Corp. (NTV) announced.

In the second season, protagonist Sawako Kuronuma, a high school girl, explores her feelings toward Shota Kazehaya, who supported her in many ways in the first season. Now, Sawako finds herself increasingly attracted to him, but she doesn’t know how to let him know. The story will follow their lives in this high school romance series.

A major development in the second series is the introduction of new character, Kento Miura, who joins Sawako’s class. Voice actor Mamoru Miyano will portray Miura. Miyano is best known for playing the role of Setsuna F. Seiei in “Mobile Suit Gundam 00.”

The original series was first aired from September 2009 on the NTV network.

Singer-songwriter Tomofumi Tanizawa, who sang the show’s theme, “Kimi ni Todoke” last season, performs the second season’s opening theme, “Sawakaze.”

The ending theme song, “Kimi ni Todoke…” will be performed by R&B duo MAY’S.

The animated TV series is based on the manga of the same title by Karuho Shiina. The popular manga has been running in publisher Shueisha Inc.’s monthly Bessatsu Margaret comic magazine since 2005. The manga series spans eight volumes, with more than 14 million copies in circulation.

A feature film based on the series was released nationwide in late September, and was also a hit.

In addition, a rerun of the first season of the animated series has been airing Tuesdays at midnight since October. It offers a great opportunity for those who missed the first season to catch up before the second season begins.
