World Mangazenkan.com launched to sell manga to overseas fans

Translated by The Asahi Shimbun from the website of Anime Anime Japan Ltd.

Mangazenkan.com, a website that sells entire lineups of popular manga series, on Aug. 19 launched a new site aimed at international fans of Japanese manga.

World Mangazenkan.com is offered in both English and Chinese, and features an online bookstore that caters to international fans wishing to buy Japanese comics.

Mangazenkan.com was started in 2006 by Torico Inc. It provides a convenient one-stop online shop to buy multiple-volume manga series.

World Mangazenkan.com extends the same concept to overseas customers.

At its launch, World Mangazenkan.com is providing 2,645 titles in a wide range of genres and styles. It plans to expand its lineup to include translations in other languages to transcend the language barrier.
According to a Torico spokesperson, currently 2 percent of hits to the Japanese-language site Mangazenkan.com are from overseas Internet users. Moreover, more than 1 percent of orders originated overseas, despite the fact that the site was in Japanese only.

To respond to rising overseas interest in Japanese manga, the company decided to open World Mangazenkan.com. Torico hopes the site will achieve sales of 100 million yen ($1.18 million) over the next year.
