‘Space Battleship Yamato 2199’ TV series to follow feature film

A new animated TV series of the 1974 classic “Space Battleship Yamato” will hit the air next year, following a feature movie of the anime, it has been announced.

The 50-minute movie will be shown at 10 locations nationwide on April 7 and serve as the prologue for the new “Space Battleship Yamato 2199” TV series of the space opera anime.

The number of episodes, broadcasters and other details of the TV series will be announced at a later date on the official website.

The new animated franchise will be jointly produced by anime studios XEBEC Inc. and Anime International Co., which have produced many successful anime titles, it was also announced.

Yutaka Izubuchi will serve as chief director, with Nobuteru Yuki providing character designs. Known for his sensitive and yet exquisite illustrations, Yuki’s anime credits include “Escaflowne” and “The Five Star Stories” feature films.
