Hatsune Miku goes global with DVD release

Translated by The Asahi Shimbun from the website of Anime Anime Japan Ltd.

A live concert featuring Hatsune Miku and other virtual singing idols held in Sapporo will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on Nov. 16, it has been announced.

To celebrate, a special screening event will be held at three movie theaters in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka the day before the release, digital entertainment content distributor Live Viewing Japan Inc. said.

The event will screen the “39’s Live in Sapporo” concert held in the northern city on Aug. 16-17, which is included in the video discs, the company said.

The screening will take place at 7 p.m. on Nov. 15 at Cinema Mediage complex in Tokyo’s Odaiba district, 109 Cinemas Nagoya theater and at Toho Cinemas Namba’s annex building in Osaka.

Tickets are 2,000 yen ($25.75).

Live Viewing Japan also announced that it is launching similar promotional events in 13 cities in six countries.

In the United States, events were to be simultaneously held on Nov. 10 in New York, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Houston, Seattle, San Francisco, Boston and Chicago, in addition to a venue in Orange County, California.

Another event will also be held in London on Nov. 29.

Hatsune Miku is the computer-generated character for a voice synthesizing application.

Her popularity continues to cross borders, and the digital diva attracted about 5,000 fans at a live concert in Los Angeles earlier this year.

Another “live” concert is scheduled in Singapore on Nov. 11.

Live Viewing Japan, which focuses on planning and organizing screening events at movie theaters, said that Hatsune Miku has gained a worldwide fan base for her looks that evoke catchy pop music and advanced technology.

Japanese anime and pop music have gained enthusiastic followings in major cities across the world.
